A chicken farm is hard enough without adding three generations of women who do not share the same life philosophy. Charlie returns to help her sick mother, Laura, keep the bio-coop running. Meanwhile she’s trying to study finance, which is basically the opposite vibe of Laura’s setup. Things are already messy, but then Laura’s mother, Solange, shows up again after a long absence. She’s eccentric, fiercely feminist, and completely uninterested in smoothing things over. Now the three women have to coexist while maintaining the farm, and the whole situation gets even more stressful with a bird flu outbreak. Funny Birds - Das Gelbe vom Ei is not polished feel-good. It’s more like domestic comedy with feathers stuck in everything. Honestly, you’re in for laughs and tension in equal measure.

Drei Frauen, ein Bio-Hühnerhof, zwei Probleme, die sich gegenseitig anheizen: Familienkrach und Vogelgrippe. Charlie kommt zurück, um ihre kranke Mutter Laura zu unterstützen. Klingt nach Pflichtprogramm. Ist es auch. Nur dass Charlottes Plan fürs Finanzwesen überhaupt nicht zu Laus Welt passt. Als dann auch noch Lauras exzentrische, leidenschaftlich feministische Mutter Solange nach längerer Abwesenheit wieder auftaucht, wird aus „Hof am Laufen halten“ ziemlich schnell „wer stoppt als Erstes den Streit und wer kümmert sich um die Hühner“. Und weil das Leben gern dramatisch spart, kommt der Ausbruch der Vogelgrippe dazu. Funny Birds ist eher chaotisch-warm als elegant. Man lacht, aber nicht weil alles glatt läuft.
